Hacettepe niversitesiZET
Cumhuriyet tarihinin geliim seyri iinde Latin harflerinin kabul nemli bir yere sahiptir. Arap harfleri yerine Latin harflerinin yeni Trk harfleri olarak kabul edilmesi ile kltrel anlamda yaanan gelimelere ivme kazandrlmtr. yle ki, eitim seviyesi ve okuma yazma orannn dk olduu bir dnemde yeni harflerin renilmesindeki kolaylk, yeni rejimin inklaplarnn hayata geirilmesine hz kazandrmtr. Okuma yazma bilmenin ayrcalk olmaktan kp hak ve zorunluluk haline gelmesi, Cumhuriyet rejimini nceki dnemden ayran en nemli zelliktir. Gerek halkn eitim seviyesinin ykselmesi, gerekse hayatn her alannda bilginin paylamnda ulalan seviye, dier pek ok alana yaplan katk asndan manidardr. Osmanl dnemi kltrel mirasnn kayb endielerine karn, Cumhuriyetle birlikte ortaya konan yeni kltrel kazanmn deerini inkr etmek mmkn deildir.

From Elifba 's to the New Turkish Alphabet
YASEMN DOANER
Hacettepe UniversityABSTRACT
The acceptence of the Latin alphabet has an important place in the history of Turkish Republic. The Turkish cultural developments accelerated by means of new Latin alphabet accepted as a new Turkish alphabet in place of the Arabic one. The convenience of teaching new alphabet, in such a period that the level of education was in lowest level, gave rise to the reforms of the new Turkish regime in application process. In this period, the reading and writing, was no more a privilege became a right and compulsory and this is very distinctive point of the Republican period. The rise of the level of education and of the share of the knowledge in every stage of life has effects on the reforms performed in other fields. Though there is an anxiety about the losing the Ottoman heritage however it is not possible to deny the value of the new cultural profit established in the Republican regime.
