ZET

Hunting Scenaries and Their Functional Features in Azerbaijani Folk Stories from the Point of View of Hunting- Culture
SEYRAN GAYIBOV
Kafkas University (Baku)
ABSTRACTThe tradition of Turkish folk story telling has continued since the sixteenth century. It is possible to observe that the functions of epic also have been carried through the story telling tradition as well. The subjects and the themes mainly deal with the newly dwelled population rather than nomadic one. Leaving the nomadic way of life and becoming a settler group required time. Similarly transition from epic tradition to folk story telling took time as well. The epic tradition influenced the folk story telling and one can observe this influence especially on the events, motives and some narrative functions of the stories. The hunting adventures which mark the presence of the hero could be an example for the influence of the legend on story telling tradition. We gathered the hunting related adventures in the stories under three groups: 1. Hunting incidents in the ustadenames; 2. Hunting incidents which allow immediate emergence of the hero into the story; 3. Hunting incidents in the development part of the story.
