Araştırma soruları şunlardır: i.

ABSTRACT

There is no study on the study of translation of culture-specific items in museum texts in Turkish context, to the best of the author’s knowledge. The study, first of its kind, analyzes only the lexical items, excluding the extralinguistic texts. The questions of the research are the following: i. What strategies were used in translating culture-specific items in the museum? ii. Does the foreignization or domestication principle prevail? A total of 141 instances of culture-specific items as well as their respective translations were studied, and it was found that the most frequently used strategy is addition, and that conservation procedures outnumber substitution procedures. The results also demonstrate that when compared to other texts, this ethnography museum’s informative texts require a different treatment of strategies for the translation of culture-specific items.

KEY WORDS

Culture-specific items, museum texts, foreignization principle, domestication principle, Skopos.
