ÖZET
Bu makalede, Prof. Dr. Cevad Heyet’in Türk dili, tarihi, edebiyatı ve kültürü hakkında kapsamlı bilgiler sunan değerli eseri Türklerin Tarihi ve Kültürüne Bir Bakış (1993) üzerine bir inceleme yapılmıştır. Çalışmada, dilsel ve tarihsel veriler birleştirildiğinde Türk halklarının kadim yaşam alanı hakkında Cevad Heyet’in neyi amaçladığı sorusuna odaklanılmıştır. Heyet’in vardığı temel sonuç, 16. yüzyılın Türk halklarının gelişme tarihinde yeni bir dönemin başlangıcını temsil ettiğidir. Çalışmada ulaşılan sonuca göre, bu yeni dönemin temel dinamiğini Türk varlığının fütuhat düşüncesi oluşturmaktadır.

ABSTRACT
This article examines Prof. Dr. Javad Heyet’s valuable work, A Look at the History and Culture of the Turks (1993), which provides comprehensive information on Turkish language, history, literature, and culture. The study focuses on the question of what Javad Heyet aimed to demonstrate regarding the ancient homeland of the Turkic peoples when linguistic and historical data are considered together. The analysis is conducted within the framework of historian Golden’s (1992) theory and concentrates on the author’s particular areas of interest in the work. The post-Soviet Turkic republics display significant differences among themselves. One of the main axes of discussion in this context is the transformation of social structures based on old tribal micropolitics into a more comprehensive and unified ethnic identity. Heyet’s principal conclusion is that the sixteenth century marked the beginning of a new period in the historical development of the Turkic peoples. The study further concludes that the idea of conquest, which characterized Turkish existence, constituted the driving force behind this new phase of development.
